The Footbal Season Returns ..... Again

The football season returns.......again. And so the saga continues. For millions of EPL, La Liga, Serie A and other league fans around the globe it is a welcome return. Eagerly waited. And all the action anticipated. Not to mention the antics of the players on and off the field. Even club managers nowadays want to be in the spotlight themselves. They are fairly good entertainers in their own right. And now the referees too want a bit of the action as well. After all why should they be left out.

Unfortunately much too much money is wasted on this sport. It is now a bussiness, how to make profit. Bussinessmen, irrespective of ones moral or social standing, are joining the fray to own football clubs. Filthy rich businessmen are scrambling to own a football club and in the process are transforming the clubs into mere business enterprises. Millions upon millions of pounds and euros are lavished by the clubs. Tens of millions of euros are spent every year to buy players, some at insane prices. And the price of the players just keep increasing every year. These players are bought and sold like how one trades a commodity at the market place.

It is unfortunate that even in football, a much liked and popular sport, money talks. The best players are owned by the richest clubs and the are pay exorbitant wages. It just doesn't make sense, millions are spent in such a manner. We need to reach within our hearts and ask ourselves, "Is it justified to 'waste' so much money in such a way?"

Everyday millions of people die due to dehydration, malnutrition, hypothermia, diarrhoea and lack of proper medical care. And yet millions of euros are spent on players. It is as if the lives of the poor are worth nothing, but the talent of the footballers are invaluable.

This kind disparity is ever so prevalent in our lives. One cries out: "Where is the justice?" Have we forgotten the people most in need? Are we cohorts in this money game? Or do we empathize with the people most in need? As they say in the malay language, 'Tepuk dada, tanya selera.'
